Sacraments

The seven Sacraments provide us with mystical channels of divine grace by using visible signs to make real to us invisible realities. Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist are known as Sacraments of Initiation because they are the ways that we enter into a living relationship with Christ. There are also Sacraments of Healing (Penance and the Anointing of the Sick) by which we are restored to spiritual and physical health. Finally, there are Sacraments of Service (Marriage and Holy Orders) by which we are given the strength to live our lives selflessly for others.

“Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38

“We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.” 2 Cor 5:20

“I am the living bread that came down from heaven; if any one eats of this bread, he will live for ever.” Jn 6:51

“Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit” Acts 8:17

“…a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one. This is a great mystery, and I mean in reference to Christ and the Church” Ephesians 5:31-32

“So they (the disciples) went out and preached that men should repent…and anointed with oil many that were sick and healed them.” Mk 6: 12-13

“Only Christ is the true priest, the others being only his ministers.” St Thomas Aquinas, Hebr. 8.4
