Parish Pastoral Council

The Pastoral Council supports the Parish Priest in meeting the pastoral needs of a large and diverse parish. Fostering a sense of community and mutual support guided by the Gospels is its core mission.

The Parish Council assists the Parish Priest in his leadership role of planning, organising and reviewing the mission of the parish and how they relate to the five pastoral pillars of hospitality, prayer, formation, generosity, and evangelisation. The Council consists of members appointed by the Parish Priest.

There are Three Main Objectives of the Parish Council

With the support of the Parish Council, the Parish Priest is responsible for the spiritual and pastoral mission of the parish, that is, to create a Catholic community centred on Jesus Christ; one guided by the Holy Spirit that joyfully makes known the good news of God’s grace to all men and women of good will.

The areas of Mission for the Parish Pastoral Council:

Evanelization

Evangelization encompasses all the ways by which the Church strives to nourish the faith of those who believe and to bring those who are seeking beauty, truth and goodness into a living relationship with Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Formation

Formation includes all those activities that help deepen our relationship with Christ and make us more faithful disciples. It includes the support of our schools and faith formation programmes including parish children not attending a Catholic school and those opportunities for learning, prayer and friendship for all adult parishioners.

Pastoral Ministry

Pastoral Ministry includes ministry to single people, couples and families, support for those who are grieving or lonely and attention to the food and shelter needs of parishioners.

Liturgy

The Eucharistic liturgy is the source and summit towards which all the activity of the Church is directed and finds its power. It is there that Christ waits for us and we encounter him as the Son of the Living God.

Social Concerns and Outreach

The Church’s call to address the moral issues and social concerns of our times involves raising awareness and, at times, challenging those attitudes and actions that threaten the dignity and rights of every human person from conception to natural death. Social concern and outreach embraces both charity and advocacy.

Parish Life

Parish Life encompasses all those initiatives and activities that strengthen our sense of being a Christian community. Parish Life fosters a sense of belonging among the members of the parish and creates bonds of friendship.
