3rd Station – Jesus is betrayed and arrested
We adore you O Christ and we praise you.
Because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world.
And at once, while he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, came up and with him a number of men armed with swords and clubs, sent by the chief priests and the scribes, and the elders. Now the traitor had arrange a signal with them saying, “The one I kiss, he is the man. Arrest him, and see his well guarded when you lead him away.” So when the traitor came, he when up to Jesus at once and said “Rabbi!” and kissed him. The other seized him and arrested him.
St Mark’s Gospel 14:43-46
Reflection
Using the sign of friendship, a kiss, as a gesture of betrayal, Judas approaches Jesus. Jesus enquires of Judas if he intends to proceed with the plan, “Judas, are you going to betray the Son of Man with a kiss?” It was too late for Judas, there was no turning back now. He was in darkness and full of greed. Lord in times of darkness, doubt, uncertainty, weakness from wearness and pain, fill me with strength, courage, and trust in your love. Lead kindly light amid the gloom. Lead thou me on.
Lord Jesus Christ, crucified and risen, help us to follow you faithfully.
