Choirs

The Parish Choir sings at the 11:30 Mass on Sundays and at many other parish liturgical celebrations. We sing a wide range of music for the liturgy and meet every Thursday for rehearsal from 8pm until 9:30pm.

We welcome new singers in all departments: sopranos, altos, tenors and basses. Being able to read music and/or some experience in choral singing are advantages but not necessary. So if you can sing and think you might enjoy singing in a choir, please come along. Play your part in continuing and developing our rich musical tradition.

If you are interested, contact the parish office or come up You will be very welcome.

OUR LADY OF LOURDES JUNIOR CHOIR

The Junior Choir is a group of young people from age 8 years – 17 years.

We meet every Monday in the Pastoral centre from 7.15pm -8pm for practice, (except during school holidays and bank holidays). We prepare the music for Sunday 9.30am mass. This is the Family Mass and it is lovely to see so many children/young people involved in the music, readings, offertory and all parts of the Eucharistic Celebration. We always try to ensure the music meets the theme of the readings. We support the First Communion programme and provide the music for this special celebration for this Special Sacrament. We join the adult choir for special occasions and this is a great experience for our young members. The group closes down at the end of July until school restarts in September. We usually try to provide a special treat for the children/young people at the end of each year as a thank you for all their commitment and attendance. It is important to stress that being part of our choir is a huge commitment, as our young people depend heavily on their parents and family to bring them and collect them each week, and also to ensure they are at Mass on the Sunday morning. Without this commitment our Choir Group could not exist. I can only thank and praise these parents for this support and commitment to their children and choir. It is important to always remember that the Children of today are the future Church of tomorrow.

We need more children/young people to join our special group. It is wonderful when people stop me in the street to say how much they love to see the children every Sunday singing. Please encourage your child to be part of the group. Come along on a Monday night and let them join in. We are also always looking for musicians to join us. They have to be at least grade 6/7 and it is essential that they can read music well. We have not got the capacity to support new learners.
