5th Station – Jesus is scourged and mocked.
We adore you O Christ and we praise you.
Because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world.
Pilate then had Jesus taken away and scourged; and after this, the soldiers twisted some thorns into a crown and put it onto his head and dressed him in a purple robe. They kept coming up to him and saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and slapping him in the face.
St John’s Gospel 19:1-3
Reflection
The temple guards were placed in charge of Jesus, who used Him as an object of scorn and ridicule. They teased Him, insulted Him, mocked Him, playing silly humiliating games. If only they realised who they were mocking was a King, Jesus Christ, things may have been different. Jesus didn’t protest, he suffered in silence. Lord Jesus Christ, you are the friend of all who suffer unjustly, of those who grieve, of those misunderstood, touch us with the power of your healing. Make us compassionate so that we too may be become healers for all those who are broken and wounded and in distress.
Lord Jesus Christ, crucified and risen, help us to follow you faithfully.
